cancer – day 93
I have to think to bring my camera next time I come to the pet spa to visit my cats. Mizzou of course is as always the nonplussed patriarch of every situation whether he’s been through it before or not. Everyone here likes to point to the top of the cabinets and tell me that’s where he likes to hang out. Lord of all he surveys, that’s Mizzou. And when he’s misbehaving, he makes sure you’re watching and he gives you the evil eye while he does it, to make sure you understand that he’s being bad because you pissed him off, not because he doesn’t know any better! Seoul, on the other hand, was fascinated by the sink for, like, twenty minutes after I used it to refresh their water bowls. The sink is a good fifteen inches deep, and Seoul is still only a young adult less than 18 months old . . . she sits full upright in the sink and only her eyes and ears show as she playfully peeks up over the edge. Too cute! And her coloring is so pretty too, she has white outlines around her eyes and these black Cleopatra lines back from the corners of her eyes that just make her very pretty and exotic, her half Siamese purebred showing through the trailer park trash that completes her lineage. The bright wolves-never-tried-to-eat-me-or-stole-away-my-four-week-old-siblings explorative expression in her eyes is vastly different from the world-wise piercing green of Mizzou’s orbs surrounded by all that rich black fur. Mizzou’s a survivor, definitely, and a very strong one at that, which makes him perfect for me, and Seoul’s a believer, and that makes her perfect for me, too. There’s a brightness about her that’s hard to describe but undeniably buoyant. Ah, there is balance in the world when I get to come visit my cats at the pet spa. Today is a good day.
