The Science of Reality
I’m taking an online course by Deepak Chopra called “The Nature of Reality.” My understanding of the overall course concept is something like . . . understanding reality so you can create the reality you want.
I’ve made some notes that I don’t want to just keep to myself in my handwritten journal, rather I want to record this information online where it is very easy to find and review. So a lot of what is coming up is taken directly from the video lessons of Deepak Chopra’s online course “The Nature of Reality.” When I get into my own experiences and thoughts, I’ll make that clear; otherwise you should assume the content of these lesson posts are summaries of or direct citations from Deepak Chopra.
The first lesson/video, called “The Science of Reality,” asks the question “What is real?”
In science, things we call “real” are made up of matter, made of molecules, which are made of particles, which are made of energy, which have information in it. Keep going, and you end up with the quantum vacuum, which cannot be experienced because it is an emptiness, a void. It exists as the potential for information and energy, which ultimately becomes everything physical.
The essential nature of the physical world is that it’s not physical. The essential nature of the material world is that it’s not material. As Rumi says: “We come spinning out of nothingness scattering stars like dust.”
My understanding of this lesson is that every thing comes from, essentially, nothing [or nothingness].
Here’s my suggestion if this seems conceptually out of reach but you’re interested in the ideas: do some research on the fundamental question, “What is consciousness?”
