cancer – day 65

Well that worked out pretty well . . . Mark spent most of his afternoon and evening helping out some friends and I needed to work and I didn’t know when else I might have time to go home before our little trip to Vegas and I didn’t want the cats to go more than a week without a refresh (and, and, and . . . yes, I am the queen of the run-on sentence, so sue me), so I went home to Volcanoville this afternoon. I took the cats for a little walk partway down into my valley looking for cool dried wood and quartz stones for our aquariums, and that took all of five minutes . . . if there’s something that’s not lacking at my property it’s trees and rocks! I managed to drag that little task out to take half an hour though, then settled into my hammock to copy edit and verify numbers in the market report. Oy vey, those 80 pages all start looking the same, making it tough to cross-reference sums from Chris and I doing different analyses on the same (hopefully the same) data then merging his pages back into the report. On the up side, I may have been working all afternoon and evening on a Sunday, but it was more relaxing this way that in my little office room down in Sac. I was on the phone (hands-free, of course!) with my parents on the way out, and I told them I was going home to edit the report the old-fashioned way . . . lying in my hammock with the cats lounging around the back yard and coming over to get love when they felt like it. Of course, when I went back inside with the cats and started cleaning up after them and getting stuff together to put in the car (I needed a suitcase for Vegas, and Mizzou knows the suitcase means travel), Mizzou went back to glaring at me from the top shelf of my desk. Mizzou used to bolt up the counter over the ‘fridge and up to the top of the kitchen cabinets to lie behind my glass vases glaring at me because he didn’t want to get in the cat carrier (he doesn’t mind the car, he lays in the back window surveying all he commands, but he hates getting in the cat caddy), but now he seems to know I’m not taking him with me, and it pisses him off. Sheesh, middle age doesn’t suit Mizzou. Of course, he looks like he’s put on a few pounds recently, which probably isn’t helping his disposition, locked up in the house with annoying little Seoul always trying to play with him. Don’t get me wrong, he definitely does better with her than without her (it only took him three days of me being away when she was young for him to realize that she was there to be a companion to him, not because I wanted Mizzou to share me with another cat after Kingsford died last year).
Anyway, the little escape today helped, and of course having an insanely busy work week coming up will help distract me from the cancer-treatment-limbo annoyance.
