cancer – day 209

I called in sick to radiation this morning. I was so miserably nauseous all night that I didn’t sleep well, and I ended up staying in bed until nearly two this afternoon. But I still have to have radiation, and today I see the doctor after radiation, so I’m going to be here (in the radiation waiting room) a while. They didn’t actually have any appointment openings this afternoon, so when I called early this morning they told me to just come in whenever this afternoon and they’d work me in on the radiation machine. How nice is that?

Yes, I’ve felt like a piece of faulty equipment getting repaired by the medical mechanics lots of times, but then there are times like this when they do something kind and you don’t feel like a machine for a moment.

About the only truly poor medical support I’ve had has been at the hospital in Placerville for my surgeries, where the nurses were mostly too preoccupied with who knows what to pay attention to or be kind to patients. Well, that and the place that did the biopsies that apparently know squat about managing pain or preventing hematoma.

I’m still really shaky and haven’t tried to eat yet, but it’s been 24 hours since the surgery now, and I haven’t thrown up today. Early this morning I had some water that turned my stomach, but I kept it down and I managed to have a cup of tea after sleeping practically all day. No Cell Space for me tonight. If I can stay awake and upright, I’ll be gaming tonight. Anyone in to World of Warcraft? 🙂
