cancer – day 206
I completely forgot to post any photos from my Gracias Milonga to the blog yesterday. Uff da! Most of the dancing photos didn’t turn out because they’re fuzzy from the movement, but I really like the big group picture, and the one with Michelle. And of course what event photo set would be complete without the one-arm shot Mark always manages to get on the first try. 🙂
There was another milonga last night, a special one-year anniversary at Firehouse 5, and I was determined to go no matter how bad the neuropathy was. After dancing too much Friday night, I pretty much couldn’t even walk Saturday morning, and I was in tears most of the night when I should have been sleeping. So I spent Saturday morning resting, and Saturday afternoon we played World of Warcraft and got our Mugthol characters up to a level 34, AND we played our first player vs. player battle, which our team lost because we had two fewer combatants and almost everyone on the other side was higher than most of us by four or five levels. But it was still fun to try.
Last nigt I danced several tandas (I think, I kind of lost track we were having such a good time) with Patrick who hadn’t been able to come to my milonga on Friday, and I danced one other song, and that was it for me. Mark actually didn’t dance at all, he just took photos and video and visited with people. Luckily they had several special little things going on: they had a live violinist with electronic backup who was really, really good and enjoyable to deance to too, and there was a harp/violin performance that was amazing, and they did a champagne toast which took some time, so I didn’t have to just sit out the entire time (because of my feet and hands and radiation burn) watching other people dance. Though when I am sitting out, I do watch pretty closely most of the time. I can’t help it. Even when I’m chatting with someone, I’m usually watching the dance floor. That’s also my tactic when I need to rest and not dance. I keep my eyes focused on the dance floor, watching people’s footwork mostly, so that I don’t make eye contact with any guys since that would open an invitation to dance (it’s called a cabaceo . . . if you want to dance with someone you make eye contact with them from anywhere in the room and he gives a little nod toward the dance floor and you go dance together . . . and some of them are carzy quick with the cabaceo, so when I need to sit out I don’t make eye contact with anyone, not at all). 🙂
