cancer – day 198

Couple of very brief mixed-together stories from the milonga . . .

There was a guy in town from San Francisco, he stopped in for some dancing on his way back from Tahoe. I remember seeing him at Cell Space and I think we’ve been introduced, but I’m not sure we’ve ever danced. But anyway, he’s really REALLY good, and last night he asked me to dance and we had two awesome crazy tandas, it was so much fun!

After dancing with him I went to sit next to one of my old Sacramento tango friends and commented that it was one of those dances where you don’t care if you have another one all evening, it was that great. (This old tango friend was someone that I’d had a really nice tanda with earlier in the evening . . . I don’t think he took the comment as a slight.) So I chatted with him for a set, and he of course asked how I was doing and I remember telling him at some point that going to the milongas really takes it out of me and I’d probably spend almost all of today resting, either sleeping or napping, to recover. I remember it now because that’s almost entirely what today has been. Recovery, stayed in bed late and napped most of the afternoon. From just a couple of hours at a milonga, not even dancing very much. Sheesh.

So, back to the San Francisco guy . . . I was talking with him again later in the night, as Mark and I were leaving, and he asked me what the free milonga on Friday is for (I’m throwing a party/milonga for my Sacramento tango friends this next Friday to thank everyone for being so caring and supportive throughout my treatsment, and to celebrate being done with chemo), and when I told Ben that, he said “I didn’t realize that was you. Well, I’ve been reading about you, and I’m glad I got to meet you,” or something like that. What got me is that he’d “read” about me (my blog? the SacTango e-mails about the party? who knows), and that here was this great dancer from San Francisco saying how great it was to meet me, when I’d felt the privilege was mine to have gotten to dance with him. Very cool, all around.
