cancer – day 196

Oh boy. The last time Seoul was here, she was still more of a kitten and could fit behind the couch . . . but tonight she got stuck! I’m home in Volcanoville for a night, having a little break. I brought home some stuff and the cats. Mizzou looked out at me in disbelief (Seriously! Mizzou has great facial expressions!) when he realized I was opening his cat caddy in my house instead of yet another foreign place. It took him about ninety seconds to make sure the house was still in order and settle back in.

Seoul, on the other hand, has now spent half her life traveling with me or living at the kennel or penned up in a bedroom. So she probably doesn’t have the same sense of “home” that Mizzou does. Mizzou owns this roost, yessiree, Bob.

Oh right, my story. So Seoul I have this huge comfy heavy corner couch with a slightly arched back so there’s a little space at the floor behind the base of the couch. Just big enough for a kitten to have a little hidey-hole to run and hide in. But Seoul’s nearly full size now, and she doesn’t seem to realize it, because she went behind there as usual and you wouldn’t believe the racket coming from behind the couch as she tried to turn around, which of course there wasn’t space for. Her collar was jingling and scraping the wall, and then it went silent. Creepy. So I call her name a few times and it’s still quiet but Mizzou has started moving along the top of the couch, following sounds too soft for me to hear, and next thing you know Seoul comes out from behind the couch with a bum right foot, she’s holding her front right paw up to her chest and moving gingerly and lying down really slowly . . . poor thing. But hopefully she’s learned not to go behind the couch now!

I’m only home for one night, then I’ll go back to Sacramento tomorrow and probably be there for at least the next couple weeks without coming home because there’s so much going on the next couple of weekends.

It was sooooo nice today to be able to drive home and NOT get carsick! At least some of the chemo side effects have now gone away completely. I can eat whatever I want now (tomatoes and milk in particular had suddenly become poisonous for me during chemo), now my food doesn’t have to be bland and mushy, though I still can’t have anything actually hot or cold, everything cooked has to be cooled quite a bit before I can eat it, but apparently that goes with the neuropathy thing? My hands are crazy-sensitive to hot and cold, I can’t hold a hot mug, or wash dishes in hot water by hand (even with gloves), or pick up a glass of ice water if it’s sat long enough to get the whole glass icy.

But anyway, it’s nice to be home with the cats. They’re settled in which makes me feel more settled too. It’ll be a cozy night catching up on Dancing With the Stars for us!
