cancer – day 195

I can’t concentrate. I start to type and it aggravates my fingers. I put my feet up under my desk and if my feet reach the wall the pressure of the wall on the ball of my foot distracts me and I forget what I was doing. Same thing when I walk to a different part of the house. Everything takes me forever to do at least in part because I can’t focus in to get something done.

For example, I got a notice from the mortgage company to change the address that my mortgage payments are sent to. So I had to go into my Quicken to find the account and make the address change. Sounds simple, right? An hour later I’ve finally accomplished the task. And I was actually in Quicken all that time, I didn’t flitter off into e-mail or something else, I just couldn’t find the darn file that needed to be changed. Uff da. My brain used to work so much better than this.

I had an appointment with the radiation oncologist today. She said my skin burn is not too bad for three weeks in, and that the burning that I feel is more on the inside. Yuck, I didn’t think about that. Makes sense though. She also asked about the fatigue that’s I admitted is setting in, and she nodded like she completely expected it. With as many breast cancer radiation patients as she sees every day, I guess all this is old hat and nothing unusual to her. Same thing with the neuropathy, really. She wasn’t at all surprised that it’s still bothering me, and she asked if it’s getting better. I said I hoped so, though it seems to just vary day by day, and she nodded again, same sort of thing, like there’s nothing unusual about it. Lots of people get stuck with this, I guess. And heck, if lots of other people can get through it, some of them for a very long time, I can get through it, too.
