cancer – day 146

So, good news on the genetic testing front! They tested for BRCA 1 sequencing and a “5-site rearrangement panel” and for BRCA 2 sequencing, and no mutations were detected anywhere. Which basically means that I have a normal risk level of a new breast cancer or of ovarian cancer for someone with the rest of my profile (meaning, for someone who already has cancer and is getting chemo and tamoxifen, though I’m still planning to resist the tamoxifen with it’s crummy severity of side effects and ask for something else, darn, what’s that other one called?).

It’s funny, but that was exactly what I was expecting to hear. I even told Mark so in the car on the way over to the appointment. I just had such a strong gut feeling there wasn’t anything wrong there, that I was completely expecting to hear that I didn’t have any gene mutations, and I didn’t know what the heck we were going to have an appointment with the genetic counselor about. Turns out we were in the appointment less than ten minutes because there was nothing to talk about. Did I call it or what?
