cancer – day 10
After a crazy-busy work morning, I meet the radiological oncologist today. After which I’ll set my bum down in a Starbucks to work until I go meet Mark to practice at 6:30PM. I’m looking forward to that. I was missing practicing and we haven’t been dancing much at the milongas with all my tests and procedures making my body not really strong enough to tolerate the guys who don’t have a gentle embrace or lead, and it’s so rude to accept some cabaceos and not others. But since Mark and I were already showing up at most of the milongas together lately anyway, it only added to the amusing gossip when people saw us together and then only dancing with each other. Last weekend, Saturday night was like that at Tango by the River. It was right after the biopsy that had the complications and left me in quite a bit more pain than it should have. But that night I went to the milonga with Mark, we danced a long first set of tandas, sat together for quite a while talking with people, and then we danced a last tanda. With how my right side was feeling, and the fact that there were a few people there I needed to inform about the cancer (which made it all the more sad that that might be my last milonga), I went home that night feeling like it was a very good last milonga. I think Mark even said something about it to me when we were walking out to the car, about how I didn’t get to dance with anyone else, and I said it was a perfect milonga. That night, feeling like I did, he was the only person I trusted and wanted to dance with. Hmmm, which cancer day was that? Maybe I can back fill the first 8 days after all. There are so many stories in every day since the ‘lump’ entered my life. Then again, there are always lots of stories in most of my days. Mostly about whatever’s going on around me, the cats, the hard drive warped beyond salvage, little things from phone calls or e-mails that, from a few sentences, bring out a whole long story about something from the past that was totally amusing.
