Music – A Gift

You may or may not know that I have been a lifelong musician, starting piano when I was five and taking up flute and voice when I was nine or so. The chemo neuropathy burning in my hands makes it all but impossible to play the flute for any great length of time now . . . I can hold on to it about thirty minutes and then I’m shot for the rest of that day, unable to touch anything else and battling myself to maintain an outward appearance that disguises the state of pain (or agony) I may be suffering. But, being a determined person, I do still play the flute for my mom’s church once in a while and accompany her choir sometimes.

I’ve always felt like I was given a gift of playing the flute in a way that touches people. I guess I was like that about dance too, but dance is just impossible now. In appreciation of my gift or talent with the flute, I always want to give that of myself to others. This year, I decided that I wanted to record a music CD for my parents’ Christmas present. Facing an enormous undertaking for someone with 30 minutes of finger function in a day, I began on the project almost a year ago, but today I gave the CD to my parents. Thanksgiving is a bit early for giving Christmas presents, unless the present is Christmas music. 😉

My dear friend and co-conspirator, Kathleen, accompanied me on her beautiful baby grand piano, and we put together a CD called “A Gift.”

The CD is not for sale. We are simply giving it away to our family and friends. But for people I may not see frequently, or have never actually met, I am making the songs available for free use and download on my website. I hope you enjoy it.
