AOC and Sen Markey just dropped their Green New Deal Resolution. We need Members of Congress to jump on board.

This morning, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey released their draft resolution for a Green New Deal. It lays out a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society at a scale not seen since World War II, move to 100% clean and renewable energy by 2030, guarantee a living-wage job for anybody who needs one, and ensure a just transition for workers and frontline communities.

To achieve this goal, I have joined an organization called The Sunrise Movement. Thanks to Sunrise, Congress is finally getting to work on a plan to avert climate catastrophe and secure a prosperous future for us all.

Because of our work these past few months, we’re coming out of the gate with incredible support: early reports state that already 5 presidential candidates in the Senate and more than 60 members of the House of Representatives have sponsored the resolution. ¹

Nancy Pelosi’s response? “The green dream or whatever they call it […] It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive”. ²

There are powerful forces in Washington trying to make this idea disappear. They say that we can’t afford it — as if saving our homes from fires and floods is too much to ask. They say it’s a naive dream — as if securing good jobs and a livable future is too much to ask for.

We want to grow our Green New Deal petition to show how many Americans support this huge new resolution. The more people who sign on, the stronger our signal to Congress will be.

The first 48 hours are critical for deciding how far this resolution, and the Green New Deal can go in 2019 and 2020. AOC and Sen. Markey will need strong support from us if they’re going to beat back attempts to water down or throw out a Green New Deal. They are asking for our help today to keep it alive, and to put it on the path to becoming law.
