cancer – day 27
Mother Nature must be having a bad hair day, or maybe she and Father Time had an argument, but whoa! My parents called from Laramie, Wyoming (they’re on their drive home from being here to take care of me) to tell me that they just saw a semi blown over at the side of the road and that they’ve been driving through high winds and hailstorms, and now tornadoes! They were hiding out with a bunch of other folks in the ballroom of a Holiday Inn where the power was off. Apparently it’s a mess out there tonight! Mom called again later to tell me that they now have a full blanket of snow covering the ground also. Sheesh, doesn’t Wyoming know it’s the end of May and there shouldn’t be any more snow?! Do I sound like a Californian or what?
But then the other thing is that when I was driving home from Sac today, highway 49 was closed because of a fire between Auburn and Cool. So here I am in Cool with the option of taking 80 back towards Sac, finding a way down to Folsom, then coming back in from the south. Without traffic that route would be probably 90 minutes for getting to Cool and then 30 minutes home from Cool, or I could take the back roads from Forest Hill and through Tahoe and El Dorado National Forests, which is also a 2-hour drive, but one that I know well and that I knew would have no traffic. Guess which way I decided to drive home? 😉
I’m definitely having some pain today, but I also managed the entire day on normal extra strength Tylenol, instead of the prescription Tylenol-3 with codeine in it. So while the pain still feels about a 5-6 today, I know it’s getting better because I didn’t have to take as many pain killers. Last night I was getting sick to my stomach from all the pain medicine without enough food. I have gotten pretty good about keeping little snacks in my messenger bag, trail mix or balance bars or something, but last night I had forgotten so I had to take pain pills on an empty stomach.
Fresno Dance Sensation is this weekend . . . I’m really bummed about not being able to go because it was such an awesome time last year, but there’s no way my body can tolerate the leads and underarm turns and spins in West Coast. At least in Argentine I can keep my right arm down and spare my right side without causing the leader enormous difficultly. There’s no way I could protect myself like that in swing, so it’s just as well that I’m not going to the convention. 🙁
Wow, tomorrow’s Friday. It seems like two weeks ago was yesterday, time suddenly started passing so quickly!
