cancer – day 427
Argh, ridiculously long day, I started working at 5AM, it’s been twelve hours so far and I really need to do another three hours or so of work tonight. Which isn’t bad really, I could be in bed by ten and asleep by midnight. It’s a week to release, which is always just an insane time for me, coordinating stuff and getting the report written and testing the files from the India guys and all that. This is the time of year when I sometimes find myself working 26-36 hours straight (seriously, I don’t know how, but it happens every year), pushing myself beyond the limit so we don’t miss a release deadline. If I made big money I could say “that’s why I make the big bucks.” But as it is, I’ll just say I can deal with it once or twice a year to have the huge benefit of working from home, a twelve-second commute from my bed to the office in the morning. Oh yeah, I have it rough. Well, ok, on some of those REALLY long days, especially if we’re pressed so close to deadline I’m counting on timezones to be able to get everyone’s reports to them on time. Now that’s some freaky stress, I gotta say.
On the up side, a week from tomorrow I’m supposed to be off “on vacation.” Who knows if it will actually happen Friday or not until the next week, but once this release is out I am shutting down my system, disconnecting the electronic leash, and disappearing for a week. During which I’m going to be going to dance workshops and stuff, as much as my neuropathy feet will allow, anyway. It’s not Italy, but Italy requires more than a week off to do it any kind of justice, so that will have to wait another six months. And after Italy, well, probably Buenos Aires, again. Oh yeah, I have such a rough life. Not. 🙂
