cancer – day 366

I am completely enamored of Jane Austen’s writing. After I discovered the tiny Georgetown library with seven shelves of books on CD, I started listening to classics while driving. On the way to Reno last weekend I finished Oliver Twist (not by Austen), and on the way back I started Sense and Sensibility, which was her first novel. And, though I enjoyed the story (and was only mildly disappointed by the trite happy ending for all), what really got me hooked was the quality of the writing. Such great use of words in old language, such descriptive passages, and such quiet sarcasm of monetary nobility, I rather thought I ought to be very glad to read another. 🙂

Yesterday I went to town to return Sense and Sensibility and to get Pride and Prejudice, which they didn’t have so I took Emma instead. A poor little rich girl story, if the first chapter is any indication. I am even making an effort to go to Sac today more out of interest in driving and listening to the book than because I really want to go be on my feet at a milonga.
