cancer – day 352

I woke up this morning to the sound of something clattering from my beside dresser to the floor under my bed, and cat bells jingling. Mizzou had decided it was time for me to get up, and decided to wake me by flicking my glasses onto the floor with as much clamor as possible. I had slept in, it being a Saturday and the likelihood of urgent e-mail being slight.

I felt as far as I could reach under the bed and under the dresser, and couldn’t feel my glasses, and, still sleepy, instead of turning on a light to see where my glasses may have fallen, I went and put in my contacts. That’s not something I do very often when I’m home. I just don’t seem to bother to. It’s sort of like wearing fashionable clothes. That’s fun and cute and all, but if I’m having a quiet day at home, why not wear quiet comfy clothes that I don’t care about brushing the cat fur off of?

I actually barely worked at all today. We’re about as ready as we’re going to be, and I have this sense of just letting it be whatever it will be at this point. If there’s something wrong with a slide or the Pepsi guy complains about the hotel serving Coke products (darn, that’s one thing I did forget to tell the caterers, to do Coke one day and Pepsi one day to appease both companies), well, the world won’t come to an end and it’s definitely set up to be a class event, so I think I’m letting it go at that.

This is a new thing for me, trusting the outcome of solid preparation and good work. Historically I would be triple and quadruple checking everything today and tomorrow (even if it is Easter) to make absolutely certain that absolutely everything is as absolutely perfect and correct as possible. For me, deadlines have always been a release from the endless perfectionism leading up to them.

But today I rested. And played WoW, then rested again, did some dishes, rested, did laundry, rested again, etc. 🙂 I made two new game friends, one in Florida and one in Utah. It’s a strange new Internet world from when I was a kid in school learning to program in C++. Wow, did I just date myself or what???
