cancer – day 224

Mark bought a new car today! Well, not brand new, but a good replacement to his stolen and totaled Acura. We went to Davis (about 20 miles away) to see this 2002 Subaru Legacy, which is like the Outback (another, more common, Subaru wagon) but a little different styling. The price was great, it had pretty low miles for its age, and it was really clean, not beat up or abused looking. So after checking it out and doing a test drive, Mark and I ran to the bank to get the seller a cashier’s check and went back to the seller’s house to get the title and the car, and then we drove back to Sac. It was two hours of time, tops. Thank goodness for the Web and Mark doing all his car research online. I can’t imagine how tedious it would have been for us to be driving around car shopping all this time. It’s been six weeks since Mark’s car was stolen. I think Yoda (as I affectionately refer to my Toyota Camry that was previously owned by my mom) is relieved to be getting a break from being the only vehicle for both of us. It’s too late to keep me out of the cold and fog riding my bike to yoga since this was my last week, but at least Mark doesn’t need my car to drive to teach dance classes in the evening anymore, which means I’m not trapped in the house without a vehicle while he goes to teach anymore. I’ve never had a “shared” vehicle before, I’ve always had my own, so this was an interesting six weeks of compromise. It’s very do-able, but I would be lying if I said it was easy enough to suggest that we only need one car between the two of us. That is definitely not the case. Independent little Dr. Miller definitely prefers having the freedom to come and go as she pleases with her own car!
