cancer – day 216
So we’re all settled last night and had already started playing the game, when Mark gets a phone call and a couple guys want to go to Cellspace, so Mark changes his mind again and decides he wants to go after all, so an hour later we’re on the road in the fog to go to San Francisco. We had a really good time though, and I had some of the best dances I’ve had in a while, and even sitting out is more enjoyable in San Francisco (no offense to the local community, there’s just less of us here) because there are so very many dancers with technique and capabilities really worth watching in the City. It was funny. I was sitting watching people’s feet (not looking for a cabaceo to dance at that moment, obviously) when I see this guy dodging traffic to come directly across the floor to verbally ask me to dance. I didn’t recognize him, but the ridiculous effort deserved an “I’d love to” response when he asked me to dance. Turns out the guy is from Atlanta and is just in San Fran visiting family for Thanksgiving. It was one of those awesome tango moments, though. He started right in with some crazy timing stuff because we had great music, but we seemed to feel the same rhythm and style changes in the music and I stayed right in sync. The moves only got crazier, but still made perfect sense to the music for me, and we had two awesome tandas before Homer ruined it by stopping the dancing to make announcements. Sigh. Onc in a while you get that awesome connection. Rarer still though is having it with a complete stranger from the first moment. I’ve only really had that happen one other time, I think . . .
The cool thing is that now when I go to Atlanta for Chain’s next QBR in February, I can go out to a milonga knowing there will be good dancers and probably someone I recognize. 🙂
