cancer – day 184
Oy vey, what a busy weekend. Friday night we had a birthday party to go to, Saturday night a Halloween costume party that we got costumes for on Saturday (Mark was a brain surgeon in surgery scrubs we got at the costume store and I was his patient wearing a hospital gown I “borrowed” from the radiation center, and we put an open wound on my head that had safety pins holding it together, and then drew a dashed line around my head indicating “cut here” for my rather inept surgeon), and tonight Mark is DJ-ing the milonga at It’s a Grind so we’ll be dancing. The parties are easier to get through than the milongas though, and I had a good time the last two nights. I’m getting better at making conversation with people again even though I still forget words and names all the time. Everybody knows about why I’ve gotten like that though, and they’re very tolerant and understanding. And they get a kick out of how I wear a different wig every time they see me (once or twice a month or most of our wine club friends, maybe three times a month in the tango crowd). People basically see Mark and then look to see if there’s a woman with Mark and then assume it’s me, I think, or maybe they just then look carefully to make sure it IS me with another different color and length of hair . . . I think some day I may actually miss the wigs and having completely different looks at the change of a hat. 🙂
