Do the Things You’ll Regret Not Doing
Spontaneous Combustion
A couple weeks ago one of my best friends (arguably my Best friend) texted me that he’s going to be in Sac, then, like, Albuquerque, NM, Phoenix, AZ, and Las Vegas, NV on this business trip. Ah, the joys of traveling six days a week for work. (Not!) So anyway, last week I was thinking, heck, if one of my oldest best friends is going to be in Vegas, he should go hang out with one of my newest best friends (I know that reads strangely, but I can explain) because I think they would have a great time and it would be kind of cool for both of them to meet each other because I’ve told each a lot about the other in the course of each friendship.
You know, this is just going to be too tedious a story to tell if I’m trying to keep names out of it, so, for those of you that haven’t guessed from reading the blog over time, the traveling guy is Brian (I love the story of how he and I met at the airport, you have to go find that story in my blog) and the Vegas guy is Kevin, that I met at CGW and suddenly and surprisingly became very close friends with and in some kind of a relationship though I can’t really define that part of it because it’s pretty much a completely new area of openness, trust, and personal development that I haven’t been writing enough about lately given how much it’s been on my mind. But I’ve been working too much to write, so all that’s still pretty much bottled up inside. Maybe today’s writing will help clear some of it out.
So BRIAN is going to be in Las Vegas two nights this week, where KEVIN lives. 😛 I kept forgetting to ask them both about it, but on Saturday I remembered, got the dates from Brian, and asked them both as a favor to me, to hang out together Wednesday night. They were both cool about it, which I think is very cool of both of them, and which makes me feel good about the quality of persons I call friend, and their trust in me (in a way).
Sunday I’m still working testing this new software, and manage to get them lined up to hang on Wednesday. And out of the blue I tell Brian, “and maybe I’ll pop down too, it would be so much fun to see you both!” So I call Kevin to see if it would work out that I could stay at his house if I suddenly come down there to meet up with he and Brian, and naturally he says yes and my decision is made Sunday night. I’m 90% sure I’m going to go.
Work this week is a disaster. I worked all weekend, literally, testing this new software that was possibly going to be released on Monday. Uff da, I’ll shorten that story to say I got the release moved to Thursday so we have time to prep the clients in these two big webinars we have scheduled with them this week. So, it’s a crazy week at work, though I should get a breather next Tuesday. And here I am on Monday, considering spontaneously jumping on a plane that night or the next to Vegas. Very unwise as it pertains to work.
Life is Not Work
It took me about fifteen seconds to decide what to do. Because I know first hand multiple times that the only things you regret in life are the things you didn’t do, and this is one of those moments you can grab or let slip by. So I grabbed it.
I got two hours of sleep last night. Yesterday I rearranged an MRI for this morning instead of later this week, got the tree trimming guy to do his whole job instead of spreading it over two days, rescheduled a property inspection to next week, found a kennel for the cats, had a dozen phone calls with clients and got my slides prepped for the webinars. Oh, and bought a ticket from Reno to Vegas for this afternoon. My last conference call last night was over at 9PM, and my first call this morning was at 5:3AM. In between I raided the RV for clan clothes because I haven’t done laundry yet since getting home from my last trip, cleaning up the house because the inspector will be coming the morning I get back, packing, and working on a white paper I need to get done to go with the new software release.
Today has been nuts, and at this point I’m just fried. I realized that neuropathy and lack of sleep are not complementary. Actually, anything un-ordinary seems to escalate the neuropathy. Too hot, too cold, too tired, too stressed, too much typing, too much standing/walking . . . on and on, pretty much any activity will raise the burning a notch. So I double-limped my way through the airport thinking about how this is about the most complicated spontaneous combustion I’ve had, and maybe it’s more than I can handle.
But now that I’m at the airport and boarding in three minutes, I’m getting excited. Time to post the blog without proof-reading, and leave you hanging until the weekend or next week when I have time to write again to tell you how it all went!
